Ohio has produced some of the most underrated yet impactful players in women’s college basketball. These five Ohio-born athletes might not always make the headlines, but they’re proving their talent at different levels of the game. From clutch performances to defensive dominance, these players are turning heads and making waves in college hoops. Who’s the next big star from Ohio? Let’s give these hidden gems the spotlight they deserve!\
Q&A with Asani Wells
Q: Why did you wait until you were in high school to start playing sports?
A: I waited until High School to play baseball because growing up there weren’t any baseball teams around my neighborhood.
Q: Why did you choose baseball?
A: I chose to play Baseball because my freshman year was during Covid and I wanted to get out of the house. It was either baseball or Track and I chose baseball.
0Q: What do you enjoy most about playing the sport?
A: I enjoy seeing the progress that I’ve made from where I first started up until now.
Q: What do you like about playing shortstop?
A: I like that there are a lot of ground balls hit to me. Which makes me move around a lot.
Q: How do you prepare mentally and physically going into a game?
A: I listen to a lot of music to get myself mentally ready. For me to get physically ready I stretch a lot because playing shortstop requires a lot of movement and I can’t move around without stretching.
Q: What has been your favorite memory of your baseball career so far?
A: My favorite memory in my baseball career was getting my first ever base hit.
Q: What are a couple things you are looking forward to in the rest of this season and What are your goals next season?
A. This season my goal is to try to hit my first home run and play my best. My goals for next year is to have a winning season and to also play at The Progressive Field in the Senate Championship.
Q: What else do you enjoy outside of baseball?
A: If im not playing baseball I enjoy studying it. I like watching Youth Prospects, College games, and MLB games. When I’m not doing anything baseball related, I like to play video games and watch TV.
